A battery lets you keep some of your surplus solar for later. Here’s where it can make a difference in everyday life.
Your solar can power your home during the day. A compatible battery can charge from energy you don’t use immediately.
Make more use of your solarUse stored energy after sunset, helping reduce the electricity you need to buy from the grid while charge is available.
Use stored energy laterAsk about backup for selected circuits. Blackout operation requires suitable equipment and installation design; it is not included with every battery.
Discuss backup in your quoteSavings depend on your solar output, usage, tariff, system losses and battery operation. A battery does not guarantee a zero electricity bill.
Federal battery support is available across NSW, VIC, QLD and ACT for eligible systems. State and territory programs offer different extras.
The calculator above estimates federal battery STCs only. State incentives and loans are not included in its dollar figures.
An eligible battery can receive an incentive for joining a virtual power plant (VPP). The amount depends on usable capacity, provider and contract. Batteries up to 50 kWh may qualify.
Home Energy Saver can finance eligible upgrades, including batteries. Property ownership, residency, income and lender criteria apply. This is repayable finance.
Eligible battery installations can access the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program. Solar Victoria’s state battery loan program is closed to new applications.
Eligible households may access the Solar Homes solar panel rebate, with an optional matching interest-free loan. This is for solar panels, not a battery rebate.
Eligible Queensland battery installations can access the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program. Use our STC calculator to compare installation periods.
Queensland’s former Battery Booster program is no longer accepting applications. Its historical rebate is not included in our estimates.
The Sustainable Household Scheme offers eligible new applicants loans from $2,000 to $20,000, including for household batteries, at 3% interest over up to 10 years.
Scheme and lender eligibility apply, including a workshop. Earlier participants and applications before 1 July 2026 have a $15,000 lifetime cap. Eligible federal battery support can also apply.

Eligibility, usable capacity and installation timing affect your STCs. Use the calculator for an estimate, then confirm the discount in your quote.
NSW VPP participation has provider terms. VIC’s panel rebate is for solar. QLD’s Battery Booster is closed. ACT finance has scheme and lending criteria.
Loans must be repaid and are not extra rebate savings. Combining support depends on each program’s rules and approved providers; availability through Electrifying Australia must be confirmed.
Understand the details before making a decision.
No. The published battery STC factor reduces from 6.8 to 5.7 for January–June 2027, then to 5.2 for July–December 2027. Support continues under the program, subject to eligibility.
No. The battery’s installation and certification date determines the applicable factor. A quote, deposit or booking date is not enough. We’ll discuss availability and requirements before confirming a schedule.
The factor applies in tiers: 100% for the first 14 kWh of usable capacity, 60% for the portion above 14 up to 28 kWh, and 15% for the portion above 28 up to 50 kWh. The calculator applies these tiers before rounding down.
Eligible batteries can be connected to new or existing solar. Compatibility, approved equipment, installation standards and other program conditions must be checked for your property. Tell us about your current inverter and solar setup.
No. It automatically calculates certificates from your usable battery capacity and selected installation month, then applies the $40/STC government clearing-house benchmark (excluding GST). Your actual discount depends on eligibility, equipment, certification, certificate prices, fees and quote terms. This is a federal battery estimate; state incentives and solar panel STCs are not included.
Availability must be confirmed after assessment. Equipment, site requirements and approvals can affect timing. Enquire early so the team can advise you on realistic dates.
