Updated: Sep 19, 2024

If your Tesla Powerwall 2 & 3 seems 'offline' or disconnected from your Tesla Mobile app, this guide will help you reconnect your Tesla Powerwall 2 Wi-Fi. To configure Wi-Fi, go near your Powerwall and Gateway, and follow the steps below.

For Gateway 1, Gateway 2 and Powerwall+

  1. In the Tesla app, locate your home energy site.

  2. Select ‘Settings.’

  3. Select ‘Configure Wi-Fi’ at the bottom of the screen.

  4. Complete the following in-app steps based on your product configuration.

    • For Gateway 1, click 'Manually Enter Details' and use the serial number from your Tesla app as the password (ex. STG1…<serial>).

    • For Gateway 2, scan the QR code located behind the glass door.

    • For Powerwall+, scan the QR code located at the top of the enclosure.

  5. If the connection fails, reset your Gateway or Powerwall+, wait five minutes, and try again. You must stand next to your system during the entire setup.

    • To reset Gateway 1, press the reset button behind the metal door for approximately one second.

    • To reset Gateway 2, press the reset button behind the glass door for approximately one second.

    • Refer to your Owner’s Manual for instructions on how to reset Powerwall. If you are unable to reset your Powerwall, contact the Customer Support team.

  6. Accept the request to join your Powerwall's local ‘TEG-xxx’ Wi-Fi network, where ‘xxx’ is the last three alphanumeric characters of your Powerwall serial number. Wait a few minutes for your phone to connect to Wi-Fi.

  7. Select your home Wi-Fi network, and then enter your network password.

Note: Powerwall is supported on 2.4 GHz networks. 5 GHz networks are not supported.

  8. Tap ‘Connect’ to connect your Powerwall to Wi-Fi. The connection may take up to five minutes to complete.

If the connection to the Powerwall Wi-Fi network fails, reset your Gateway or Powerwall, wait five minutes and try again.

For Powerwall 3

  1. On the energy home screen in the Tesla app, tap ‘Device Offline.’

  2. Select ‘Powerwall 3.’

  3. Open the toggle switch cover on your Powerwall 3.

  4. After two seconds, ‘Found Toggle Switch’ should appear as a prompt on your screen. Select this prompt once you locate the switch.

  5. When requested, tap ‘Pair’ to enable a Bluetooth connection between your phone and your Powerwall 3.

  6. After you’ve paired your phone, toggle your Powerwall 3 switch off and then, back on.

  7. Tap ‘Toggled Switch.’

  8. Accept connection to network when requested in the Tesla app.

Note: Once connected to your home Wi-Fi, your Powerwall’s power flow and energy data will begin syncing with the Tesla network. If your device does not begin reporting data within 24 hours of connecting to Wi-Fi, contact contact the Customer Support team. If you are unable to connect your system to Wi-Fi, learn more about alternative internet connectivity options.

A Wi-Fi signal strength between two or three bars is required for a successful connection to your home network. If a signal strength of two or three bars is not achieved, relocate your access point or consider alternative connectivity options.
